Beverly Beryl (Hauck) Coughlin peacefully passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at the age of 91, at Bethany Meadows in Brandon, S.D. Funeral services will be 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at George Boom Funeral Chapel, Brandon. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 3 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society (PO Box 426, De Smet, SD 57231), Risen Savior Catholic Church (301 N. Splitrock Blvd., Brandon, SD, 57005), or a charity of your choice. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in De Smet. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the graveside at the Event Center in De Smet.

She was born March 25, 1926 to Wayne and Grace (Pirlet) Hauck in Kingsbury County. When she was in the second grade she moved to De Smet and attended grade school and high school, graduating from De Smet High School with the class of 1944 as Salutatorian of her class.

She later attended Huron College obtaining a Business Associate Degree. She married Dale Coughlin when he returned from the Navy on Feb. 8, 1947. She worked for the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of South Dakota as Secretary of Kingsbury County Fire Insurance Company. Beverly and Dale raised their four children and lived happily in De Smet.

In 1972 they moved to Watertown, S.D., where Dale had his own Life Insurance Agency. Beverly worked with him as his secretary. During that time, they also traveled the United States and Europe meeting many new friends.

Dale retired and they moved to Lake Poinsett and lived there for the next 15 years. In 2010, they moved to Brandon at Bethany Meadows, a retirement community where they were near their son, Michael and family.

Beverly was a wonderful and loving woman, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family and looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her kindness and compassion were cherished by all that knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Beverly is survived by her daughter, Jan Marler of Tyler, Texas; son Michael (Robyn) Coughlin of Brandon; daughter, Judy (Jim) Gillies of Portland, Ore.; and son, Brian Coughlin of Mt. Hood, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Kazmerzak and Pearl Coughlin; five grandsons; two granddaughters; and 15 ½ great grandchildren. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Coughlin; her parents, Wayne and Grace Hauck; two brothers, Zelton and Wesley Hauck; her sister, Audrey Magnuson; and a son-in-law, Michael Marler.
