Bastian, Schenk bid for council

Unless City Hall receives a final-hour filer, Brett Bastian or Spencer Schenk will replace Blaine Jones on Brandon City Council.
Ward 1 residents have until 4:30 p.m. today (Aug. 8) to submit expression of interest forms for the vacancy.
Jones relocated last month and announced his resignation July 16.
Bastian and Schenk handed in forms in late July. As of Tuesday morning, City Hall had not received others for the Ward 1 opening.
Mayor Larry Beesley and the council will hold public interviews with the candidates at the council’s Aug. 20 briefing meeting and consider an appointment at the regular 6 p.m. meeting.
The appointment will expire May 6, 2019.
Any Ward 1 resident interested in serving the remaining one year of the term will need to file a nominating petition. If more than one petition is filed, registered Ward 1 voters will choose a representative in an April 9, 2019, municipal election.
Both Bastian and Schenk have ran for city council previously. Schenk lost to incumbent Barb Fish in April.
Jones served 10 years and is the third council member to resign in the past year.
Dana Clark was appointed in May to replace Don Wells in Ward 2. She will serve through May.
Chuck Parsons was appointed in January to replace Roger Brooks. Parsons won a three-way race in April and will serve through 2020.
