Barbara J. Coulter, 81

Barbara Jean Coulter, 81, of Brandon, S.D., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023 at Risen Savior Catholic Church in Brandon. Visitation with family present to greet friends will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Barbara Jean Steinhoff was born Aug. 13, 1941, in Luverne, Minn., to Ray and Betty (Cox) Steinhoff. She grew up and received her education in Adrian and Lake Benton, Minn. She and Dan Coulter eloped on Jan. 10, 1959 in Marshall, Minn. Theirs was an enduring love story that continued for nearly 60 years, until Dan's passing in 2018. They were blessed with two daughters, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. They resided in Brandon for 46 years. Barb and Dan were founding members of Risen Savior Catholic Church.

Barb was a secretary for the Army Recruitment Center and retired from the federal government in 1997. She received several awards for exemplary service and dedicated support from the Sioux Falls Recruiting Company and Des Moines Battalion. During retirement, Barb and Dan enjoyed several winters in Hawaii and Texas and were honored for their volunteer service to the Red Cross as Volunteers of the Year. Barb will be remembered for her tremendous love of family, dancing and travel.

Left to cherish Barb’s life are her daughters, Kathy (Dan) Dellman and Jo (John) Murre,n all of Brandon; three grandchildren, Ryan (Lyndse) Dellman of Hecla, S.D., Leland (Isabella) Murren of Globe, Ariz., and Macy (Dylan) Peterson of Fort Pierre, S.D.; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Carly Dellman and Coulter Peterson; brother, Steve (Bonnie) Steinhoff of Alameda, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Joyce Steinhoff of Brandon; and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; parents Ray and Betty Steinhoff; and brother, Alan Steinhoff.
