The Charles R. Doman American Legion Auxiliary Unit 131 in Valley Springs held their monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. Old business discussed included Veterans Day, Operation Pillowcase, and the upcoming Feather Party. New business discussed included special upcoming activities at the VA Hospital, such as their Christmas gift shop and their Christmas party.
In honor of the American Legion Auxiliary’s 100th birthday, which was on Nov. 10, 2019, the Valley Springs Auxiliary unit presented a special book to the Valley Springs Elementary at their Veterans Day program on Friday, Nov. 8. The book presented was entitled Hero at Home. It was written by Sarah Verardo, a military wife whose husband was severely injured during a deployment. To help their young children cope with the comments their classmates made about their dad’s injury, Sarah wrote this book. It has been highly recommended by National American Legion Auxiliary President Nicole Clapp. The Valley Springs Auxiliary believed that gifting the book to the elementary school was a very fitting way to celebrate the 100th birthday.
The Auxiliary is now on winter break from meetings and won’t meet again until Monday, March 16 at 7 p.m.
