Asher Ryan Katz

Asher Ryan Katz, 1-day-old son of Kelly and Janelle (Westra) Katz of Brandon, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon, with interment at Brandon Cemetery. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 5 at the funeral chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.
Asher had a very short but meaningful life. He was an amazing boy who overcame whatever was put in front of him. He taught us all again what the meaning of unconditional love is. He brought families together and stole everyone’s heart. Don’t be sad for him, because he had the perfect life - a life wrapped in love by his family and in the word of the Lord and blessed by the Lord. Asher also showed us how valuable our time is here on earth. Every second of every day needs to count and have purpose. Forgive and forget. Love and be loved.
Asher enjoyed swimming in mom’s gigantic pool and wrestling with daddy at night and having kick fights. He also enjoyed listening to Riley and Aubrey argue over his nickname, (Tiny and Ash). Most of all, he enjoyed those times when the family prayed together at dinner or when mom and dad prayed with him, especially at bed time. That was usually when he would wake up and kick mom to show he was listening to us.
Grateful for having shared his brief but meaningful life are his parents, Kelly and Janelle Katz, Brandon; two sisters, Riley and Aubrey Katz; grandparents, Jeralyn and Gary Westra, Hull, Iowa; great-grandparents, John and Lori Hoksbergen and Johanna Westra, all of Hull, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Jeff and Nicki Westra, Byron Center, Mich., Josh and Glenda Krikke, Sanborn, Iowa, Steve and Tonia Westra, Brett and Britney Westra, and Kyle Westra, all of Hull, DeeDee and Donnie Owston, Kearney, Neb., Alicia Katz, Wichita, Kan., Jeremy Katz, Fort Collins, Colo., Megan Katz, Wichita, Jennifer and Jed Lindsay, Norton, Kan.; many beloved cousins; and many other relatives and friends.
