The Absent Uncle: 'She has found a way to serve those in need'

The absent uncle has 11 nieces and nephews, one niece of the 11 has graciously allowed me to publish my essays in this publication.

Today, I want to write about another niece. One of which I am so proud.

Of the 11, we have educators, managers, business owners, health professionals, providers of essential services and all are hardworking. This niece is an educator; however, part of this essay is to point out her success despite her chosen career.

No names, but the family brood will know who I am talking about.

She always wanted to play school. Organized, at her desk, ready to teach. She was mentored by an aunt – an educator. She pushed her way through college, got a teaching job in a totally foreign environment, and was successful! So successful that she attracted the attention of the district superintendent she was working at and began a rise through the ranks of the districts she worked for.

All in the guise of an educator.

But she is so much more. She cares; she volunteers to do much more outside of the school system; she follows up on the kids she meets and sees their value, struggles, and tries her best to support them. She pushes the system to meet their needs, give them the GED, diploma or the recognition they have earned.

But politics, oh the politics. She just doesn’t play them. Right is right – but that does not always work.

She finds herself today, still working in the educational system, but in a different role. As always, she has found her way to serve, to help, and assist those that are in most need of assistance.

Thus, my point – an educator – sure – but a person that cares deeply about people she comes in contact with – indeed – that is who I am proud of.
